WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM CEI?
At the moment, our facility is organized with two large and two small classrooms, designed to comfortably accommodate around 40 students/gamers in total. Each seat will have network access and power cables for a PC and a monitor. You will not need to bring power cables, surge protectors or patch cables. There will be a monitor on each desk, either a 1280*1024-capable 17" CRT display or a 1024*768-capable 15" flat panel. Someone wishing to use his or her own display certainly can, but we hear not having to haul around an expensive monitor is a good thing for some people.
CEI will provide beverages (bottled water and a selection of soda). There's a vending machine available for snacking needs, and there are a number of restaurants nearby for those looking for a meal.
At least one CEI staff member will be available to supervise the event and to help with computer-related problems. Our staff members are certified technicians with years of experience. We like to help. CEI does reserve the right to charge for service time. We'll let you know if your problem has ventured into non-free territory.
CEI has a 3Mbit/384kbit up/down cable connection to the Internet. Our cable segment is not being heavily used. Our existing internal network is 100Mbit within each classroom with a gigabit backbone. All network connections are switched. If you don't know what that means, that's fine. Just know that we have a professionally installed and maintained network and a fast connection to the Internet.
A server will be provided for popular games (CS, UT2004). Additional servers may be added, based on demand.
Individual blank media - floppies, CD-R's, and 4x DVD-R discs will be available for a small cost.
